Saturday 1-23-10 Waking up on Saturday morning, after grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting down at the computer to read the news, what should pop up on the screen, but an article about 19 year old Lauren McClusky. I will let you read it for yourself. Lauren McClusky vs. McDonald’s Here it is in a nutshell. Lauren has been promoting the Chicago Chapter of the “Special Olympics” for the last three years and has raised over $30,000 by putting on a series of charity concerts called “McFest” on account of her name. McDonald’s corp. feels threatened by the 19 year old and her charitable concert series “McFest” that they threw their corporate lawyers at her and now the money she’s raising is for her own lawyers to defend the use of her own name!
Special Olympics is one of the many charities that IUEC Local 2 supports and it’s a charity that is very near and dear to my heart. Saturday March 6, 2010, the Local 2 plungers will be at it again. We have been getting more and more volunteers (other Local 2 members) to jump into the icy waters of Lake Michigan at Sunrise beach in Lake Bluff to help raise money for Special Olympics. Let’s help Lauren McClusky by raising more money for Special Olympics and at the same time tell McDonald’s we don’t agree with their tactics by boycotting their stores. Do NOT eat at McDonald’s! The boycott starts with you. Take that $5 that you would have spent at McDonald’s and spend it knowing it will go to a Special Olympiad rather than their corporate lawyers. In the next few months Local 2 members and other Polar Plungers will be asking for your help. Please donate. Thank you. Respectfully yours, Dan Baumann
